wintery weekend

It's been really cold and wet again. It rained most of Saturday, and I had to bust out the heater for the first time last night.

I've had a really full-on week at work, with it being a short week and all, and still in the midst of performance appraisal season... people have been stressing out and things have been going a bit wrong. Should be okay next week though.

I had an errand to run in town yesterday, so I wandered the streets a bit, just checking stuff out. I was accosted by Save the Children, She Gym, a bum and ten or so people handing out flyers. One of them, who I didn't abuse, was Kevin's friend whose name escapes me, but who was at Argie's band's gigs out at Liverpool the last couple of times. He was handing out flyers for the Sydney Winterfest which looks like fun. Kev and some of his friends from out that way are medieval reenactors, which looks like way more fun than it sounds. They make thier own armour and swords and stuff. I'm going to go along to some of their meetings in the near future and check it out.

I also ended up in town for a second time with Adam, at Scruffy Murphy's, which is a scuzzy little irish pub on George Street. Frankly it's got nothing on Molly Malone's or even JJ Murphy's or the Bristol in Welllington, but it was raining pretty hard and we wanted somewhere unpretentious and cozy. Lars came along with his poker set, and we went back to my place for some serious money-winning (the pot was $20). I've wanted to get a regular poker night going for a while now, and Lars taught Adam and Rory how to play, and Adam's girlfriend Liz when she came over a bit later, so I have at least three potential victims. I'm not that crash hot at poker myself either, so it was nice to have a refresher session of how it works! It was a really pleasant evening. :)

Today I'm hanging out in bed because it's still freezing bloody cold, listening to loud classical music and drinking endless cups of hot chocolate. It's nice.
